Temperate Climates

There are two types of Temperate climates:

  • Cool Temperate
  • Warm Temperate

Cool Temperate

  • Four seasons
  • Warm Summers 14 - 20 degrees in Summer
  • Mild Winters 3 - 7 degrees in Winter
  • Rain throughout the year, mostly in Winter
  • Weather is cloudy and changes often
  • Vegetation, deciduous forest - oak, ash, elm
  • Most of the Forests have been removed for farming, transport and settlement
  • Average Rainfall 1000 - 200mm/year
  • Squirrel, Pine Martin
  • Example of Country: Ireland, Uk, New Zealand

Warm Temperate

  • Also known as the Mediterranean climate
  • Close enough to the Equator
  • Summers are hot and dry 30 degrees and long hours of sunshine
  • Winters are mild and moist 6 - 10 degrees
  • Rainfall, 400 - 700mm/year
  • Grapes, oranges, lemons
  • plants -  lavender, lilies, roses
  • Example of Country: Italy, Spain, Portugal
