As a river moves from source to the sea, it transports its load. The load is transported in different ways by the river.
- Large pebbles and stones are rolled and dragged along the river bed by the force of the water. This is known as traction.
- Small pebbles are bounced along the river bed. This method is known as saltation.
- Small particles are held in suspension in the water- the movement of water is fast enough to keep them from dropping to the river bed.
- Dissolved minerals like limestone is carried in solution{it cannot be seen}.
