New houses or houses that are being sold or leased must have a Building Energy Rating (BER) This tells us about the energy efficiency of the house.
An 'A' rating means that the house is very energy efficient and a 'G' rating means that the house is not energy efficient.
There are many ways of improving the energy efficiency of your home:
- Insulate the hot water tank
- Insulate the walls attic and floor
- Install double-glazed or even triple-glazed windows and doors
- replace old boilers with new, more efficient ones
- Use energy-efficient appliances
