There are five basic steps to genetic engineering
- identify the section of DNA that contains the required gene from source chromosome,
- extract the required gene,
- insert the required gene into vector/bacterial plasmid,
- insert plasmid into the host cell,
- grow transformed cells to produce a GM organism.
