What are the steps for genetic engineering?

There are five basic steps to genetic engineering

• identify the section of DNA that contains the required gene from source chromosome,
• extract the required gene,
• insert the required gene into vector/bacterial plasmid,
• insert plasmid into the host cell,
• grow transformed cells to produce a GM organism.
