  • Public relations describes the things a business does to make sure that consumers see its brand and products in positive way. PR looks after a business's reputation.
  • Public relations are often much cheaper than advertising.

Examples of public relations include:

  1. Sponsorship: paying to have the business name or logo associated with a team, event or venue. For example, Allianz Insurance sponsors the GAA.
  2. Engaging with the community: if a business helps the community it operates in, customers will be more likely to stay loyal. For example, Tesco Community Fund supports local causes.
  3. Informing the public about environmental goals: by reducing its impact on the environment and making the public aware of sustainability goals, a business will improve its image.
  4. Working with the press: providing the media with stories and interviews about the business. The public relations department may send out a press release. This is a statement  to the press that contains information about the business or its products.
