Paris tells Friar Lawrence he is to be married to Juliet on Thursday.
The Friar questions the speed at which they are getting married.
Juliet arrives and asks Paris to leave her alone with the Friar.
Juliet pleads with the Friar for help.
Juliet takes out a dagger and threatens to kill herself rather than marry Paris.
The Friar agrees to help and will give her a potion that will make her look like she is dead for 42 hours. In that time Romeo will come from Mantua to take her away.
Scene 2
Capulet makes arrangements for his daughter's wedding.
It is to be a large affair.
Juliet apologises to her father and says she will be ruled by him in the future.
He is so pleased that he brings the wedding forward to Wednesday.
Scene 3
Juliet asks her mother and the Nurse to leave her alone in her bedroom to prepare for the wedding.
Juliet is nervous and has doubts. She worries the potion will fail and keeps the dagger beside her. She fears its poison or might suffocate or go mad.
She drinks the potion and falls on her bed.
Scene 4
The last minute details are being attended to for the wedding-food, drink, etc.
Scene 5
The Nurse goes to get Juliet up and believes she is dead.
Lady Capulet and Capulet are shocked at her death.
Friar Lawrence arrives and restores calm. He advises her body should be brought to the burial vault promptly.
Capulet advises that every thing ready for the wedding will now be used for the funeral.
Peter chats to the musicians. First he requests music and then declines it.
