What is genetics in science?

Genetics is the study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity in organisms. It is an important branch in biology because heredity is vital to organisms' evolution. Gregor Mendel, a Moravian Augustinian friar working in the 19th century in Brno, was the first to study genetics scientifically.

Genetics or genes are lengths of DNA along a chromosome. Each gene controls the making of a particular protein. Only 3% of DNA in human chromosomes is in tje form of genes. The rest is known as 'junk DNA'. Humans have 46 chromosomes in each cell. Each gene has a corresponding gene controlling the same trait on the same place on its partner chromosome. We habe 2 genes for each trait. One from our mother/father.Gregor Mendel is the father of genetics.we have inherited and aquired traits...... KEYWORDS TO KNOW: expressed,, genotype,, phenotype,,dominant,,recessive,,mendelian crosses.
