  • Sieves: The sieving of excavated soil and sediment is to recover artefacts not found in excavation.
  • Brushes: Brushes are used to clean the surfaces of finds, and to tidy up dirt ready to take photographs.
  • Trowels:They are used because they allow for more soil to be moved in a shorter time
  • Shovels: Small hand shovels, like coal shovels, normal sized shovels and spades, buckets and wheelbarrows are used to clear away the loose dirt, known as “spoil”, and take it to the spoil heap.
  • Magnifying glass : The magnifying glass will be used to magnify the images of those remains which are very small but are important.
  • Measuring tape:The measuring tape will help to measure the length of bodies,or any bodily remain which will help to have a clue about the past life.
  • Drawing frame : it is a frame that is placed over the archaeology to enable the planner to visualise the grid on the ground, and draw more accurately.
  • Ladder: used to climb up high.
  • Mechanical diggers :Using a mechanical digger the quickest method to remove soil and debris and to prepare the surface for excavation by hand.
  • Wooden skewers :can be used to pick away small bits of Earth from an artefact.
