Leonardo Da Vinci was born in Vinci, near Florence in 1452. He is considered the ideal Renaissance man because his skills and interests ranged over so many different areas. At 14, he became an apprentice to Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence. In 1418, da Vinci was hired to work for the Duke of Milan. While in Milan, Da Vinci completed The Last Supper on the wall of a monastery. It shows the moment that Jesus tells the disciples that one of them will betray him. The painting shows his excellent use of perspective. He let many sketches and half-completed works but only 15 of his works were fully finished. In 1516 he went to France at the invitation of King Francis I and died there in 1519.
