Roman's made concrete by mixing lime with volcanic ash and rocks. With the concrete, they built big buildings such as the Colosseum and the Pantheon, which are still standing to this day. Aqueducts were built by Romans and was used so that water could be supplied to towns and cities. Public baths were built so that people can access fresh water. Many modern cities were founded by the Romans.  They built their new towns in a grid pattern which is followed by some  modern cities such as Washington and New york. French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese are based on the Roman language, Latin. Scientists use Latin for naming plants, animals and insects. Romans painted frescoes, paintings done on wet plaster, and this style of painting continued through the middle ages and the Renaissance. The modern calendar is based on the calendar introduced by Julius Caesar. Later, the gregorian calendar because the Gregorian calendar was much more active.
