Why is digestion important?

Digestion is important because when you eat food e.g bread it is not in the form that the body can use as nourishment, and must be broken down into smaller molecules and nutrients so that it can be absorbed into the blood and carried to cells throughout the body.

The food we take in is too large to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream. It is the digestive system that breaks this food down into smaller, more soluble pieces so it can be easily absorbed
