Heathcliff –  The main character. An orphan brought to live at Wuthering Heights by Mr. Earnshaw. Heathcliff falls in an unbreakable love with Mr. Earnshaw’s daughter Catherine. Catherine’s decision to marry Edgar Linton almost destroys their relationship. Heathcliff spends most of his life acting our revenge for Catharine’s betrayal.

Catherine Earnshaw – Wild and arrogant as a child, she brings misery to everyone she loves – Heathcliff, Edgar and also to herself.

Edgar Linton – He marries Catherine Earnshaw and is Heathcliff’s rival. He dies shortly after his daughter is forced to be the husband of Linton Heathcliff at Wuthering Heights.

Cathy Linton – Daughter of Catherine and Edgar. Cathy is like her mother, who dies hours after giving birth to Cathy.

Linton Heathcliff – Son of Heathcliff and Isabella. Weak and constantly sick, he is raised away form Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights in Lodon by his mother. Following her death he returns to live with Heathcliff, who forces him to marries Cathy.

Hareton Earnshaw – The son of Hindley and Frances Earnshaw, and Catherine’s nephew. In the end he marries Cathy.

Hindley Earnshaw – Catherine’s brother, and Mr. Earnshaw’s son. After his father’s death he takes a bit of revenge on Heathcliff.

Frances Earnshaw – Hindley’s wife. She dies soon after giving birth to their son Hareton.

Mr. and Mrs. Earnshaw  – Catherine and Hindley’s parents. Mr. Earnshaw brings Heathcliff into the family after his trip from Liverpool.

Isabella – The younger sister of Edgar, who falls in love with Heathcliff and marries him. She experiences Heathcliff’s brutality first hand and flees to London where she gives birth to Linton Heathcliff.

Mr. and Mrs. Linton – Edgar and Isabella’s parents. They welcome Catherine into their home and teach her to act like a gentle-woman.

Joseph – An elderly, religious servant at Wuthering Heights.

Ellen (Nelly) Dean – Narrator of the story who relates the majority of events that occurred. She was the faithful servant of the Earnshaws and later the Lintons.

Lockwood – Heathcliff’s tenant at Thrushcross Grange who records the events and his own experiences with Wuthering Heights.

Zillah – Heathcliff’s housekeeper who saves Lockwood from the pack of dogs.

Mr. Green – Edgar lawyer.

Kenneth – Local physician.

Jabe Branderham – Protestant preacher who appears in Lockwood’s dream.
